Interlocking uses a specialized tool to weave each loc's new growth into the existing loc at the root, creating tension and a secure anchor. This method avoids twisting or products, resulting in crisp roots and minimal residue while preserving loc integrity.
Most clients return every four to eight weeks depending on growth rate and desired neatness. Shorter intervals suit fast growth or very polished styles; longer gaps can work for slower growth. Your stylist will advise.
Most clients feel minimal discomfort; tension is focused at roots but should not be painful. Skilled stylists use gentle tension, breaks, and adjusted techniques for sensitive scalps. Communicate any pain immediately so we can modify pressure and ensure comfort throughout the appointment.
Service time varies with loc quantity and thickness. For medium-length, medium-density locs expect about one to two hours. Very dense or longer locs can take longer. Your stylist will provide a more accurate estimate during consultation and booking.
Interlocking works on most loc types and sizes, but technique adjustments may be necessary for very thin, fragile, or extremely thick locs. Your stylist will assess hair health, density, and size to determine suitability and recommend alternatives when interlocking isn't ideal.
Avoid heavy products and excessive manipulation for at least a week. Keep scalp clean and moisturized with light, residue-free oils or sprays. Sleep with a satin scarf or pillowcase, and return for scheduled maintenance to maintain tightness and prevent loosening.
